BurngreaveAn inner city district to the north of the city centre, Burngreave has around 14,000 residents, with substantial black, Indian-subcontinent and Chinese communities and a strong Muslim presence. There is a higher-than-average proportion of of one-person households, which might indicate a relatively disconnected neighbourhood. Levels of disability and long-term ill health are high. Unemployment is more than double the national average, and in 2001 around a third of unemployed people were classified as “long term unemployed”.
